Sarah
Mann originally set out to become a figurative sculptor. As she
studied, she found herself fascinated by crafts, and decorative
folk art. To stylize the patterns seen in nature, and to apply
them to forms and surfaces seemed a universal tendency. For Sarah,
it is the creation of pattern, and applied design where the process
of making fine art and the spiritual intent of craft come together.
True
to the nature of folk art, Sarah works with a variety of materials,
such as paint, clay, and fabric. A major focus of Sarah's work
is embroidery, and felt.
"What
moves me the most is art that enhances the day-to-day fabric of
people's lives", says Sarah. "My goal is to create art
which people use to connect with each other, celebrate, play and
seek respite. My vision is to offer an array of home decor items
that foster joyful nurturing and cozy warmth - a look that you
can sink into and at the same time uplifts your spirits."
Sarah's
work has been licensed by Department 56, Marcel Schurman, Home
Fires Rugs, Taylor and Company, and Andrea by Sadek.
She
attended the Maine College of Art, Pratt Institute, and graduated
from Massachusetts College of Art with a BFA in sculpture. She
lives in the Boston area.
